Hi, I’m Shelley Mitchell, the founder of Divorce Equity Solutions. My passion for helping divorcing homeowners comes from a place of personal experience, and it’s what drives me to support others through one of life’s most challenging transitions.
Growing up, my parents divorced when I was just two years old. I never experienced the stability of a family home and promised myself that my own children would never feel that loss. Yet, life had other plans, and I found myself navigating divorce as a young mother with two small children, aged three and five.
The journey wasn’t easy. Divorcing an alcoholic spouse was one of the most difficult experiences I’ve faced. Years later, I went through another divorce from an unfaithful partner, this time far away from family and friends. It felt overwhelming, and at times, I was lost and uncertain about what the future would hold. I even believed I was done with marriage altogether.
But through time, healing, and the right counseling, I found hope again. I met my soulmate, and together we blended our families to create a household filled with love, laughter, and a renewed sense of purpose. Today, my husband and I work side by side, using our personal experiences to fuel our passion for Divorce Equity Solutions.

My name is Matt Mitchell, and I’m the co-founder of Divorce Equity Solutions. My journey into the divorce industry – and my passion for helping divorcing homeowners – has been shaped by a blend of deeply personal and transformative life experiences.
I was fortunate to grow up in a stable, loving home, where my parents set an incredible example of marriage, celebrating over 50 years together. My childhood was a blueprint for security and the kind of family life many aspire to create. After graduating from Baylor University and returning to Houston, I believed I had everything figured out. I took my time before getting married, convinced that careful planning would ensure a strong, lasting marriage, much like the one my parents had modeled.
Life blessed me with three wonderful sons, and I thought I had built a solid foundation for our family. But life is unpredictable. After nearly 14 years of marriage, challenges involving alcohol and infidelity shattered the family structure I had envisioned. The experience was devastating, humbling, and profoundly life-changing. It taught me that even with the best intentions and planning, life can take unforeseen turns.
Today, I’m grateful to share my life and work with my wife and best friend, Shelley. In the fall of 2021, we combined our unique personal and professional experiences and founded Divorce Equity Solutions. Together, we help others navigate the complexities of divorce with compassion and guidance. We believe this work is our calling – to show others they are not alone and that every divorce, while unique, can be met with understanding and practical solutions.
